EQUITECH Int'l Corp. (Aiken, SC) introduced at Pittcon '97 a range of low-cost multiplexed spectroscopy systems and fibre optic probes based on proprietary technology licensed from the US Department of Energy's Savannah River Site.

President Ron Floyd comments, "Pat O'Rourke, our lead scientist, and senior design engineer Bill Toole developed some of these technologies when they worked at Westinghouse, Savannah River Laboratory. We are introducing six fibre optic probes for the visible and UV/visible range, including a Raman probe, and will be offering an NIR probe and system later this year".

Floyd notes, "one of the features that differentiates us from the competition is the fact that we can link our system to 18 probes against the current industry standard of eight ... and we're selling this system for about half the price, under $30,000. We see a major market for our products in real-time analysis applications in the chemical processing and pharmaceutical industries".

Equitech has aggressive growth plans. Floyd says that the business plan for his 12-strong company calls for shipments to begin in June and for revenues to reach over $3 million in 1997, rising to between $10 million and $20 million by 1998.
