FIBRE CHANNEL IN THE LAN AND WAN

Fibre Channel technology is maturing in the high volume applications of storage connect and Storage Area Networks in the data center. Network Attached Storage and other techniques take advantage of Fibre Channel's ability to provide multi-protocol connections like IP or in the case of video and graphics, fast file transport protocols. There is a natural progression of Fibre Channel to the LAN in cases where very high performance or low latency connections must be made. Fibre Channel can also be used as a LAN backbone. For longer distances, a metropolitan connected Fibre Channel system is useful for connecting datacenters distributed over several buildings or for high performance web sites. Router methodologies and high performance multi-protocol computer connections are covered.

Brian R. Smith, CEO and Chief Technical Officer, CrossRoads Systems
