they already are paying attention. batelle is also the oldest research lab in the world, their facility is larger than the white house. they didnt get this way by taking on iffy products. the fda question has been out there now for a week, the real scenario is this:

if you have a small scientist(s) who has a solid chance at a life changing breakthrough with technology, like sgnc, and you are a big pharmaceutical how do you react.

1. you wait for them to get their product to a world wide respected lab for further testing.

2. you keep in touch with the lab to see if the product is performing well under tough scrutiny.

3. you TAKE A CHANCE THAT YOU MAY HAVE COME UPON SOME TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN BE ADDED TO YOUR OWN AND PUSH YOU OVER THE TOP, THE ANNUAL MARKET IS 20 BILLION, SO THE 2-3 HUNDRED MM DOLLAR RISK IS A NO BRAINER.

4. you MAKE SURE YOU BEAT YOUR COMPETITORS TO THE PUNCH AND BUY THE TECHNOLOGY. you dont want to look back in 5-6 years and say we could of had that.

so this is not just about the product, it is about the big drug companies beating their competitors to the punch, who ever comes out with a fda product first is KING. you have a product that got fda approval in another major country, japan, whether their fda regs are as stringent as ours or not, the potential buyout partner has to be thinking that most of the trial work and a lot of the data has been retrieved already, now just to put it into usa fda machine. the reward for a deep pocket like baxter or amgen would be infinite, the risk being that they are out some cash. the reward puts them in the drivers seat for decades. the big boys will take no chance that this technology isnt legit now that it is at batelle and will begin a bidding war soon. all imho of course.
