Here is the "rest of the story". One of the brokerages(a west coast type) misquoted Bernard Schwartz regarding a "bottleneck" in handset production that would delay service until June 1999. This was immediately countered by an East coast brokerage who gave the correct quote. There is no "handset delay". Gateways are rolling out as scheduled with a test version of the CDMA software that will be upgraded before commercial operations begin. Fifteen gateways will be completed by Feb. 1999. I expect a slow rollout of service using the gateways as they are finished. Whoever commented on capacity is correct--sats over and above 32 do add somewhat to coverage, but significantly increase capacity. They will be needed in 2000+. With 32 sats, there will be coverage holes concentrated around the equator(where the earth is "fattest").
