Japan may not be that important to our economy but it is crucial to the other economies of the region. That is the frustrating part. I don't know if you have noticed but there are many days when the Japanese stock market moves in the opposite direction to the other markets in the region. What is good for Japan is not necessarily good for the rest of Asia.

The majority of the Japanese people are happy to be in a slight depression. They have full employment with no inflation. The rest of the world wants them to stoke up their economy to keep everyone else happy. They resist.

Taken as a whole Asia is important to us. It is even more important to Europe which is important to us. So it all fits together and even if it didn't there is the political risk of instability.

I think we need a broader menu for the Dim Sum Conference. How about Roast Stagster with Gooseberries? Strawberry Short-cake is an all time favorite.
