How unhappy is Rep. John D. Dingell over the "global
warming" treaty midwifed by Vice President Al Gore?
Well, the Michigan Democrat sent out a "Dear Colleague"
letter Tuesday urging members of Congress to attend a
presentation by two climate experts -- even though the
program is at a location normally not associated with Mr.
Dingell.
Scientists Roy Spencer of NASA and John Christy of the
University of Alabama developed a record of the Earth's
temperature using satellites. They found that since 1979, when
their satellite program began, there has been a slight cooling
trend.
"These distinguished scientists will present their findings on
Friday, June 19, 1998, at 12 noon at 214 Massachusetts
Avenue NE," Mr. Dingell said in his letter, adding in
parenthesis:
"If you're wondering, that address belongs to the Heritage
Foundation. I don't normally encourage my colleagues or staff
to attend meetings at the Heritage Foundation, and I don't
intend to make it a practice. Doctors Spencer and Christy are
respected and independent scientists, and this invitation in no
way constitutes an endorsement of any position taken by
Heritage now, or in the future."
