Orbit to Provide LSI Logic Customers With Gate Array Products 03:52 p.m Jun 15, 1998 Eastern
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1998--Orbit Semiconductor, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dii Group (NASDAQ: DIIG), today announced a new program to extend the life of LSI Logic's recently obsoleted gate arrays.
This new program is designed to support customers burdened with this obsolescence. The program offers LSI Logic customers a long-term solution to their end-of-life (EOL) concerns by converting the LSI gate array into an Orbit equivalent with a guarantee of 5 years continued product support.
In the past few months LSI has announced plans to transition out of their 0.7 micron, 1.0 micron and 1.5 micron gate array products. This Orbit program supports these obsoleted parts. Instead of being forced into a last-time buy, customers will be supplied with a cost-effective alternative. Orbit offers equivalent parts at competitive prices and supports those offerings with Orbit's standard quick-turn production. Additionally, Orbit's design and fabrication expertise allows for a variety of added features.
"A program like this offers customers a choice," said Ronald R. Snyder, Orbit's president. "When faced with an end-of-life buy and escalating costs, many customers look to Orbit's conversion services as the only cost-effective solution to their future product needs. To ensure a smooth transition, Orbit has refined its conversion process so as to accommodate EOL customers with minimal inconvenience to them."
In its sixteen years as a semiconductor manufacturer, Orbit has maintained a philosophy based on customer service and long-term product support. "Our customers appreciate the fact that we don't obsolete Fab processes," said Uzi Breier, Orbit's vice president of sales and marketing. "We're excited about the opportunity created by LSI and other major gate array vendors who are currently obsoleting selected gate array offerings. Customers are happy to find out that we can resolve the dilemma presented by obsolescence."
Orbit provides semiconductor design, manufacturing and engineering support services that allow system designers to manage ASIC production, scheduling and inventory control effectively. Through Orbit's ENCORE! program, customers can convert their ASICs into Orbit gate arrays for more cost-effective solutions or accelerated delivery.
In addition to digital gate arrays, Orbit provides a variety of mixed-signal capabilities. The Orbit Mixed-Signal (OMS) program includes 25 different mixed-signal arrays as well as full-custom, mixed-signal solutions.
With its own 6" CMOS (Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) fabrication facility in San Jose, Calif., Orbit also provides custom process development, high-reliability manufacturing and quick-turn prototyping services. The Company sells its products and services to designers of a wide variety of electronic systems and products for application in the medical, telecommunications, consumer, aerospace and military, computers and peripherals, and other industries.
