For purposes of the summer rally, does it matter so much what Japan is "really going to do" as what the perception of action is? After all, this is election season, so promises will figure larger than action. What the party in power actually does would seem to have a bigger effect on the drop you anticipate for the fall. Seems to me that they need to give their voters a reason not to change horses, so they have to promise something that makes some sense and buoys their market and confidence, which would presumably help our markets short term. By the time elections are over and reality kicks in the summer rally may have come and gone. Then the question is what they really will do, and how painful it will be, which may have longer term impacts.

A question for you and anyone else on thread with an opinion: Given that a rising tide has not necessarily raised this boat in the past, is there any reason to think that a summer rally will do much for WFR given the sea of red ink? I generally see this as a long term buy, but may be willing to take a quick buck and try to come back in fall if the opportunity presents. TIA

Jim
