The gods are slobs and they can't lead any better lives. However if everyone were to recognize this absolute truth, what would be the purpose for making so much effort to get a better life? When people have the belief that there is something better, they keep trying to find it. They create all kinds of wealth by merely making the effort. Without differences the world stops. Unemployment is caused only when the employed no longer want to work. If you get laid off, go get another job. If can't find one, make one or train yourself to be valuable to someone else. Opportunities to do that always exist because a significant majority won't put out that much effort. If you do, you compete the job away from them. The professors call this Social Darwinism and disapprove of it. Therefore, it is the way to success and happiness.
