Peter Troop called me and we had a long conversation.

For my concerns see post 5334 and Joe.

First he explained that the SEC filing was a routine update of the 1988 SEC filing which had a ten year window and was not intended to mean anything significant in relation to takeover rumors or have any greater significance than be a routine update. Apparently the legal folks didn't understand the implications of the timing of what they were doing. His department wasn't even informed of the action by the legal folks.

That sounds like a typical corporate snaffoo.

We then had a conversation concerning post 5334 in which he used the expression, thats a fair question, a number of times and I explained exactly what I meant.

I also suggested to him that Marengi can build investor confidence by directly addressing the concerns of the investors on this thread. I explained the significance of our thread in informing public opinion. I indicated we didn't expect an on-line dialogue, but just to have our concerns addressed on occasion and be informed not by those out to portray Novell negatively with rumor or misinformation but by our own management directly and factually.

In particular I explained the need for aggressiveness in PR and marketing strategies. See joe and my previous posts. I explained how having a marketing plan for a corporate release of earnings with a successful product can be played for mindshare. I told him I was worried about the lack of a reporting focus to Marengi's key management committee from marketing.

He indicated Marengi wanted this focus also, understood the implications of the earnings release in terms of product success and the need to publicize that fact and said Marengi was aware of the corporate marketing void.

Apparently the product lines do product marketing and there is no higher level corporate marketing focus. Marengi, he said, intends to fill this position with someone and do something about the problem. I suggested that was a potential topic for him to address us with us in any direct communication to this thread. I told him that a lot of people out here understand what it is like to play the mindshare game with MSFT et alia and how important to Novell it was to be sure Novell's potential customers get the message from Novell, especially when the message is a positive and can lead to increased sales.

Peter also indicated Novell will make a better attempt to put up a FAQ on its web page with more posts on announcements and answers to stockholder questions.
