WOWWW! JBA site attention for embedded y2k

'Embedded systems mayhem

2000.jbaworld.com
includes a column from Harlan Smith, a regular year 2000 contributor, and fully supports Harlan's SMCP campaign for global co-operation on year 2000 mitigation and contingency planning.

If you like this site please tell others or link to us. We always appreciate feedback.

We promised more information on this section and here it is - no less than three new articles focusing on the problem of the Y2K threat to embedded logic.

"Basic issues of embedded systems and the year 2000" by Robert Coenen answers many of the commonly asked questions about the year 2000 and embedded systems. Two articles from Harlan Smith go on to consider how we can go about remediation. Be sure to read Harlan's thirteen step comparison of remediating embedded systems v computer systems.

What are you waiting for? Check out the revamped embedded systems section .

Harlan Smith contributes with y2k column
After retiring in January 1994 Harlan Smith has been following the year 2000 problem. With a background in military radar systems he also has a good grasp of the embedded systems problem. His column kicked off this week with two new articles...

Another date hidden problem - tm_year
This nugget came from Harlan and looks at the misuse of the tm_year function used in many languages including C, C++ and JavaScript. Find out how it may cause you a headache if left unaddressed .

Saving the world?
Harlan has donned his cape and set off to save the world with this proposal for tackling the year 2000 problem on a global scale. His article, Synergistic Mitigation and Contingency Preparation (SMCP) looks at the pitfalls of current efforts and how we can get back on track. Webmasters do your part by linking to the article at 2000.jbaworld.com/smcp/ (you can even use our graphic!)

A bigger problem of micro proportions
Forget software problems (no don't) but there is another problem we all need to consider. Micro chip systems, often referred to as embedded systems, are littered throughout our lives from traffic signals to water treatment plants - and guess what... some of them use date routines similar to software procedures! Fortunately Roleigh Martin seems to have a good grasp of the problem and has written some great articles.
