hitesh,
good post! I enjoyed reading it. I agree with what you're saying.
I just had a comment on your conclusion. >>They have no vested interest but you and I do.<<
True, they're trying to keep us happy so we come back and read some more of their articles...
>>So we have to rely on our own research and not ignore signs that are staring at our faces.<<
I agree. A person has to rely on his own research no matter what...even if one thinks the analyst or journalist is trying to be honest.
But, I think there are some good analyst and journalist from who we can all profit. But they're in the minority, it seems. Doing our own research takes a lot of time and effort. If we find somebody we can trust, it can make the job easier. This also applies to SI were people are trying to collect information from each other.
After I become knowledgeable about some area, then I can better understand whether somebody is more interested in winning a popularity contest, or if their trying hard to find the truth....just as you were able to do with the Ascend reporter. Now that you possibly set him straight, he may try to do his research a little more honestly, and when he comes up with some good ideas, you might be more trusting and not have to double and triple check it yourself.
So, I guess what I'm saying, is that there are some good honest journ. & anal., but we have to put in the work to find out where they are. Hopefully, with interactions like this on SI, it will be easier to locate these better sources of truthfullness. It'll save us a lot of time in the long run. |
