To short a stock on Nasdaq you must have an uptick sale, at which point you can sell at the last price bid or offer, or higher. For example a stock is bid 10 - 10 1/16 ask and the last trade at 10 was an uptick you can sell the bid. If the last uptick price is 10 1/16 then you can offer at that price or higher.
It's a little different from going long but once you get the hang of it it's not hard at all.
