Jim,

Re: "Yousef, does the die size matter? What about 68mm2 and 81mm2?"

Of course die size matters ... As die size goes down, yield goes up (for
a given defect density). Excellent yield at 68mm^2 is 87% and 81mm^2 is 84%.
These are "world class" numbers and should be what AMD strives for.

Now let me tell you another secret, Jim ... It really doesn't matter what
yield that AMD is at "if" they are demand limited. In other words, if
AMD increases effective supply, they still only sell the same amount. Let's
look at the past couple of quarters ... Q4'97 resulted in 1.5M K6 shipments
while Q1'98 resulted in 1.55M K6 shipments. if AMD doesn't break out well
above 2M shipments, then yield improvement is moot. So Jim once again, you
are focused on the wrong thing.

Make It So,
Yousef
