Shifts seen in online shopping New types of products are showing rising sales online. While
computer software, books and music have traditionally been the
strongest categories, New York-based market researcher Organic
says sales of gifts, apparel, cars, and food are showing "significant
increases." The study also found that women, for the first time,
outspent men in certain categories. Twenty six percent of women,
for example, purchased gifts online. The report concludes online
shopping is beginning to replace traditional retail shopping among
consumers. Twenty nine and a half million adults researched
product information online. Of those, 15.8 million did their shopping
in traditional retail outlets or by mail order.
