Hi-
I think each person's individual nature dictates how one is comfortable in playing the market..
I don't have that many acquaintances but I have another acquaintances
who knows most of the top financial people in NY area..he has told
me many stories of very brilliant independent thinkers who have made
fortunes and lost fortunes in the market and keep on coming back for
more..his consistently winning friends seem to pay no attention whatsoever to the market and look for opportunities with long term
potential..one of his friends just picks a very few companies after
intensive research and then closely monitors everything on a daily
basis..
another one of his friends invests for large private institutions ..
my friend said that for the longest while, his friend just sat on the
money and just returned t bill rates until he found what he was looking for and one year gave startling returns..of course he was paid
for the four years that his performance was poor..but I guess he had
established big respect from big money..
re blocks...I don't feel like writing IMHO..but rather,just guessing
as usual for the second..JGAUFTS..big blocks can give a lot of information..
of course there can be something written saying that warrants or options might have come due to be exercized..
of course that can be significant margin calls that force big holders
to unload(who knows possibly with GIT A. this week if the holder had
a huge position in KRY)
but if it is a big block at the top of a price range..could suggest
that smart money thinks that the top is near and wants out..
If it is at bottom of range..possibly "big money" has squeezed holder
to finally unload with implied threat that we aren't going to move this stock until you get rid of it..
could be mm's positioning themselves for a big move in stock
could be big market players causing a signal to go up saying that the
stock will start moving now..(the shares could be moving basically into the same hands but calling attention to it)
ie with barrick on the canadian side..noticed that there is an accumulation with certain brokers and the sellers might have gotten in
a lot earlier and want to unload..I am assuming that the big buyers and big sellers only use one brokerage ie Nesbitt or Scotia McLeod where I see buying and houses like Gundy doing the selling..also I
am assuming that houses like Cannacord etc have more traders rather than long term holders.. all my assumptions could be incorrect
