Albert, I agree that since Compaq and other major manufacturers are talking to AMD that there is cause for encouragement. As the saying goes talk is cheap. My guess is that Cyrix has learned that lesson very well. No company has complained more vocally and done so little to support independent developers like Cyrix and AMD than has Compaq.

You can bet that Cyrix heard all kinds of conditions before Compaq and other Tier 1 suppliers would like to purchase processors. They included you need to have the capacity, well Cyrix lined-up the capacity. You need to qualify the Processor, Cyrix qualified the Processor. You need to have processors that compete against all Intel products, soon AMD and Cyrix will be able to claim this as well. Personally, I have been involved in an Industry where some customers want to use other suppliers just to keep their primary supplier honest. I suspect that most Tier 1 suppliers are of that type. Only when they are threatened by another major supplier will they move.

I hope AMD with its superior manufacturing capacity can break the Intel monopoly. I was long AMD quite a while ago and got out after the first series of dissappointments with the K5. I will consider picking-up AMD in the future, but I am waiting for a pull-back. AMD has managed to stay-up pretty firmly. I may not get the chance I am looking for.

Good Luck in your investment.

Bob
