Why do you keep beating this dead horse? There is nothing in this article that suggests that CPQ takes back good merchandise. Do you know the details of what the stock swap program did? Are you confusing Compaq taking back DOA or broken product under warranty claims with some part of the price protection scheme? Dell takes back DOA boxes too... that's what warranty is all about.

If you don't know what the programs actually did how can you expect me to take your comments seriously? FYI the stock swap program reallocated channel inventory with price compensation for the current value of the merchandise, which was already a part of the price protection plan. It just moved that inventory to someone who wanted to sell it, and provided new HW to the transferer in lieu of other compensation. This was a better plan than sending a check IMO but still not good enough, that's why they eventually just eliminated the program.
