Zeev,

"transparency" and free trade between currencies.

I agree this is ideal and should work. But it seems to me that either true free trade or true isolationism would work, at least for us in the US. We don't have either one, of course. As I understand it, we erect very few trade barriers against imports from other countries, but many countries have barriers against our exports. There are certainly many countries in which American citizens may not own property or businesses. I know the politicians want to do whatever they can for their constituents in the business community, and that that is the likely reason for the complexities of the trade regulations.

The politicians answer that what's good for American business is good for the rest of us. I'm not so sure. The conservatives got lambasted some years ago for their "trickle down" view of things. That reminds me of an old Al Capp cartoon series of the fifties, in which this view was expressed as, "What's good for General Bullmoose is good for the country."

I don't mean to suggest that I have an answer. Just continuing with my Saturday morning musings.

Jack
