The side of the flat ribbon cable with the red stripe always gets connected to the Pin 1 side of the mating connector. Sometimes it is hard to find the Pin 1 side of the mating connector. You might have to remove a hard disk or a controller from your cabinet to read the labels. But I have yet to find a drive or controller that didn't have Pin 1 identified.
