How about my countrymen? Five-to-nil. And Bergkamp isn't even totally match-fit yet. I can't wait for them to blow out Mexico Thursday. I'd be surprised if they didn't win by at least two goals, playing as they are now. Thank goodness Hiddink read my last posting here on SI and took my advice to get rid of Seedorf and put in Jonk. He controlled the midfield beautifully, with crisp, accurate passing all day long. Cocu was a pleasant surprise. Look out for him. A little confidence and he's off. You could see it in his eyes.

Obviously, it takes more than mere skill and teamwork to win the Cup. Brazil played superbly in '94 but they also had luck on their side at several crucial moments. If Holland's luck can hold, I think they now how a wonderful chance to go all the way. Brazil is not nearly the threat people think they are. I would not call them favorites. And yet it has been to Holland's advantage to have all the pre-tournament hoopla focusing on Brazil, Italy, and Germany. That is fine with me. If Holland plays like this there is not a team out there that can beat them. Period. Sorry, Klaus, you might beat the Americans, but those old-timers on your side haven't a chance in hell of beating this Dutch team, given they don't beat themselves with infighting. It seems that this time around there is a cohesion in the Dutch side that has been lacking for years. Barring injury or horrendous bad fortune, I now believe this Cup is Holland's for the taking. I'm flying to Holland in a week - my friends and I are going to celebrate this one like never before! July 12 is going to be a great day for the Netherlands!
