Henry, as promised I checked my San Diego notes pertaining to LGND's androgen program. Here they are word for word (DR was the speaker):
"LGND has both androgen antagonists and agonists. Largest program in the world, even including big pharma - - 35 scientists and growing. You will here a lot about it in the next 12 months, holding this program for LGND now, but big pharmas are extremely interested."
(Idouble checked the 35. That is what my notes show, but it is possible 75 is correct as I was writing very fast.)
I'm not sure why, but this then appears in my notes:
"DR says potential for osteo and HRT ALONE equivalent in size to largest biotech."
And after DR talked a little about a new leptin signal modulator program (a long term obesity project):
"LGND 1331- Androgen antagonist, due in humans next year. DR very excited, says targets heursuitism, prostate cancer, balding. Androgen agonist" --- (my notes stop here on this topic but he did talk a bit about the agonist.)
The next topic was the oral replacement for interferon, which he again could hardly contain his excitement. He stressed it needed more work, but felt they would be in humans in 2001.
Hope this was helpful.
