Argentina 1 x 0 Jamaica half time.

Tango taking it easy.... Reggae Boyz, one man less.... No comment.

Argentina should score one or two more times, no need to risk an injury in this game... I believe Argentina can do better...

Ok Boyz, I am back. Thank you George and all for keeping the thread alive.

Necessary and profitable trip indeed, but I hated it because it was in the middle of the World Cup, in my religion that is a BIG BIG BIG sin, so penance is to watch more soccer and have lots of fun. I like my religion indeed, no guilt trips here.

Anyway, later I will go through the messages and comment/respond accordingly, in the meantime, and in quick form, here are some comments.

First, I have to comment on the Mexico -Vs- Belgium game. (I was able to watch hat game, plus parts of others here and there).

The Belgian team was very lucky indeed, two balls against the cross bar within the first 20 minutes, and then that stupid red card from the referee......

I will comment on this later, the "tackle from behind" is a wide rule in the sense that it will avoid serious injury, however, you need a wise, and capable referee to enforce it, because what matters is THE INTENT!

The Mexican team is a good example of the red card applied i.e.:

In the Korea game, where Mexico benefited by the red card, I agreed with the red card because the intent on the Korean defender was TO GET THE MAN.

When the Mexican defender, got the red card, it was unjustified, because the defender went FOR THE BALL.

These are TWO DIFFERENT INTENTS, and THAT is what it should be punished, the intent, if you go for the ball, the worse it can be against you is a foul, however if there is ill intent, then I agree, you should get the red card.

In addition, the referee in this instance almost destroyed a good game. This game could have been one of the best.

As it was, it turned out to be a good game, IMO Mexico should have won this game, their equalizer, was a SUPERB GOLAZO, both in the set up and the finishing, Blanco executed to perfection, with the OUTSIDE of his foot, this goal reminded me of the equalizing goal in the game between W. Germany and England. (Final 1966). I was there at Wembley, in line by the English goal, and saw the German forward put it in the net IN THE LAST MINUTE OF THE SECOND HALF. That goal send the game to extra-time, (England went on to win 4-2).

Hernandez, Blanco, and Arellano are turning to be good assets in this team.

Most importantly about this team is that they were able to come back from a 2 x 0 lead, and almost won, I believe towards the end they got tired. It was crucial for this team that they should have scored in the early going, had one of the balls that hit the cross bar early gone in the net, the Belgians wold have been made puree....

Now they must at least tie with the Dutch. If they play inspired and with imagination, they can beat the Dutch.

A few choice words to Klaus and to Goldfinger:

Klaus:

It seems as though you spoke too soon, the Geriatric Germany Team got lucky and should be glad they came out with a point, however, I still do not discount them as they played with their old "never say die" attitude, which one should respect, but winning the cup, will take more than that, and today they did not show that.

T Goldfinger... Now, now, you are doing the old "pride going to the head" thing, remember that the final is NOT going to be against S. Korea. The game against Mexico is not going to be that easy, I believe the Dutch to be the favorite in that game, but do not discount the Mexicans yet, this is probably one of the best teams Mexico has put together, they still need a real outstanding player, but so far both Blanco and Hernandez have proven that when pressed, they have been capable to do what is needed.

Remember that had it not been by the referee, Belgium would have been creamed by the Mexican team, the Dutch did not do that, so while I agree with you that the Dutch are the favorites, I wold not be so overconfident just yet, as for wining the cup...... Too early to tell.

IMO this cup is probably the most open one for a long time, I can not see so far a "clear winner". Take the Italians for example, while briefly, (and bear in mind I did not see the entire game), the Italians showed a spark that could put them in the finals.

Yugoslavia surprised me in this game, they should have won but......

Chile.... yes, I agree = Bola de Pendejos.... They should have won that game without question, but....

Re: The Austrian team tied in the last minute: Remember the old saying:

[in soccer] "The last minute, [of the game], also has sixty seconds"

Meaning, NEVER stop attacking because they can still score against you in that last minute, PARTICULARLY important when your lead is a meager 1 x 0.

The USA -Vs- Iran..... I saw the US trainer a couple of days ago... a sorry sight indeed, this guy should go and train the mentally handicapped bureaucrats.... Alternatively, may be he should go counseling some politicians. as a soccer trainer.... I am a good astronaut.

I can now understand how these fine young athletes performed like a bunch of old retards against the Germans....

They must get their act together, or they are going to have a sore red arse against the Iranians.... The best thing to do is to forget all the instructions from the chief bureaucrat, and go have some fun and play like I know these guys could play...

We shall see it will be an interesting (and tense) game.

George, Re: FTEL..... Are the old farts at it again ??? oh boy, poor guys, and poor old FTEL, I know it is a good company, but... it reminds me of Carlos Reuteman (again)... "El ya merito"....

It is a Spanish (Latin American) expression, meaning "it is almost" there.... emphasis on almost, meaning ETERNALLY ALMOST.

I do not know why but there are things (or people) in life that they are cursed that way, everything seems to be in place, all the ingredients are there, etc. etc. but for some reason, "the rice never really cooks"...

In soccer terms, it would be like.... the Mexican team, the Chilean team.... and dare I say it... the Dutch team. if FTEL was a soccer team, it would be one of the mentioned above...

Argentina used to be that way, until they finally started winning the cup.

Anyway, I better get off the subject or I am liable to get flamed by one of those rabid FTEL old farts, spewing foam out of their mouth like a rabid dog coming here to this civil thread and start telling me that I am "hyping" soccer and the rest of the typical "bb-SI bullshit".

I hope one of this days they can really pull it off.....

Maybe by the time the 12 ole sacred priests of the circus of the absurd, gets to be 95 years old...... Boy, I have fun poking at these guys.....

Anyway, back to important things such as the World Cup. I will post some more, probably after the IRAN -Vs- USA game, I hope the USA can pull it off, but it is not going to be easy, I hope both teams play in a good sportsmanlike manner and leave the bullshit to the politicians.

Anyway, the above is the "short form" I will come back for more...

Z.
