JJC and TSC - right place at the right time

I guess it's safer to post here rather than on the JJC 'hate' thread.

All I can say is that I really like him and I'm paid up at the TSC. I like his intensity, his honesty, his willingness to share his thoughts with us, and his strong desire that the non-Wall Street type investors - the smaller guys - can also avail themselves of the tools necessary to become successful investors. I don't want him to tell me what to buy/sell - I just want to learn from him - and to use that knowledge with everything else that I'm learning on investing.

I was exclusively in mutual funds for a number of years, but over the last six months I've dumped most of them following some poor performance - even though I was paying for 'professional management'. I'm now almost exclusively into stocks. I made a few mistakes very early on - mostly by being too hasty with purchases - so what, and I learnt from that error - but now I'm a lot more confident with my trading and where I place my money.

Right now I'm heavily into NIR which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Napier International Technologies has developed a revolutionary and `environmentally friendly' product line of chemical strippers. They are now acquiring Aquasol International who have developed a revolutionary and also `environmentally friendly' surface cleaning product. Together it looks like that they may corner the worldwide market with this technology - especially with their link to big big players in the chemical packaging and marketing sides of the business.

I'm going to make a huge killing here - and it's going to be the next Canadian Ballard Power Systems type of stock. There are a number of players in this story and I've gone all the way through the companies involved - speaking to folks - asking lots of questions - something that I had never thought I would do - and I was surprised at how chatty these people are with small investors. This even extends to folks at Imperial Chemical Industries - a mammoth UK based chemical giant that has worldwide dominance (manufacture in 50+ countries, market in 160+ countries) that's linked to NIR. Now that I'm heavily into the research side and it's really interesting, for example:

Without coming across JJC - I may not have even considered phoning these people - 'leave it to the professionals' I've always been told - and why would they talk to me? Then one day I said `to h*ll with it - I'm calling them' and that's where it all started for me.

Now I really take what I read in the financial press with a grain of salt - as I know more about what's going on than they do with NIR - which was a bit of a wake up call for me. I had until recently considered most of what I read in the business press to be true, thorough and with good insight - when in fact it may not be that way at all!

I love following the markets now - every day is different. I tape JJC when he's on Squawk Box (what's happening with ABC's business program - saw it on GMA/Sunday a couple of weeks ago?) - plus I watch all the other folks on CNBC - it's all I seem to watch on TV now for business and market news.

I've found that the bottom line is that you must diversify your sources of information about any stock where you're considering making an investment. You need to make the calls to the main players - take the time that's necessary to do the research - then take the plunge! I use one of the Canadian online discount brokers - and it's great. I love this technology!!

So thanks to JJC for your desire to help the little guy. It helps to take us out of the clutches of the tyranny of "dufus" fund managers and "I'm just out for myself - and have I got a great stock for you" brokers.
