<< excuse me? in the beginning? the beginning of what? >>

Every product in the history of the universe has (and will) follow the 'product cycle' as spelled out in all marketing textbooks. The 'beginning' I refer to is the early ramp, when all the 'early adopters' (aka power users) buy up the product.

During this phase everthing looks rosy. High margins, huge demand, people can't get enough.. Hording, FAD status, etc... Eventually, the market saturates. ZIP is in the saturation phase now. Everyone who really wants one of these things already has one. Prices plummet, margins drop, product tails off.

To be successful (IMO) Iomega needed to be in about 40% of the boxes shipped by saturation phase. I estimate they are at 2-3% now. (I gave my derivation of this number back in October..). Therefore, the product failed....

BTW, who are you? Are you another one of those caught up in the hype? Some advice: Think for yourself... Run your own numbers, you'll see what I'm talking about...

Good luck!!
