I hope you can help...perhaps even post this to the board since I'm not a member...
This is my situation...
I trade...often but not a daytrader. I monitor level II at webstreet which is not ideal but
suites my limited bugdet. I also keep several windows (4-5) up and going at once.
I had a pentium 100 with 16mg ram and it was slow. In Dec I went in for an upgrade
and all they could give me was a 200 pentium (non-mmx)
and they added ram so I've got like 48 or 64 now.they said my motherboard wouldnt
support it a mmx. I think I have a 28.8 or 33.6 modum and a 17 inch monitor.
The 200 sped things up a lot but now....i think my hardrive is full.
I've got a 1.2 hardrive and I know very little about deleting stuff and that kind of thing.
Basicly I use my computer for stocks....research and trading and that kind of thing but
I dont
know much else. Most I've ever done was install the modum a few years ago.
I'm sure all my other stuff is old as it came with the Pentium 100 that I got years ago.
Right now....I'm running out of memory it says when I have like 5 windows going.
Sometimes I cant even delete mail untill I close all windows. And it seems most things
that have any kind of graphics are real slow.
So here I am....very limited technical knowledge and a limited budget
wanting to get the most bang for my buck. I WONT spend more than $1200 absolute
max but really want to get by on less. Much less if possible.
Is this old system worth upgrading ?? Or should i just start from scratch ? I've got a 17
inch monitor.
Is it worth buying something upgradable or should I pretty much resign myself that in a
year I'll need a newer better one ?
How important is the MMX ? vIDEO card ? Faster modum ?? All the other stuff ?
Help me here folks....tell me what to buy and who to buy it from.

I'm interested in having 2 monitors going at once. But not if its going to cost me a big
bundle.
Oh and I think one of these old harddrives (ive got a c and a d) are acting up.
I'm inclined to spend about $800 and buy a pentium 233mmx with 64 mg ram and a
6.4 harddrive with a 32x cd (ive got 6x now !) Is that the thing to do or should I
perhaps buy a harddrive, a modum, a video card and whatever else i need and keep
this 200 (non mmx) ???
THANKS very much for any and all help.
I'm looking for the balance between cost & performance with an eye on upgradeability
and such. Again...with NO technical knowledge.
I'm a real neophyte when it comes to computers....
AGAIN please post to the dream machine board too.
