I think you put your finger on part of it in a previous post. It is likely that there is good will and this cannot be expensed. But I do think there might be a difference between the way things are handled for the tax calculation and how it will be reported for profit reporting purposes. There used to be a difference but perhaps the two systems have converged.

One way or another though, I doubt that the charge will be for the full value of the purchase. To do so would mean that the company they bought has no value from an accounting perspective and will not show up on the balance sheet. It may depend a bit on how GameFX kept its books.

Does THQI expense all product development costs?
