great idea and it works! The only problem I see with the solution is that it leaves userid:password@ on the line of the URL in the browser (at least in Netscape)... so that every person who used the machine could look up at the URL area and see your password. Not very secure, but convenient if you don't care.

You would also need to be VERY careful if you decided to post a link to someone about a particular post - you must CUT the userid:password out before someone else sees it.
