BEAVERTON, Ore. and ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1998--Kodak Business Imaging Systems and Adaptive Solutions Inc. today jointly announced the shipping of next-generation data entry products utilizing the Kodak Digital Science(TM) Scanner 3500 and Adaptive's EntryLink(TM) family of Computer Assisted Data Entry products.
The new EntryLink product line extends the value of Kodak's new mid-volume scanner by making it a highly automated data entry peripheral for converting paper forms to useful online data. Building upon Adaptive's acquisition of Kodak's Imagelink(TM) OCR (Optical Character Recognition) business last October, EntryLink incorporates significant recognition technology originally developed by Kodak and now commercialized by Adaptive.
Moreover, EntryLink includes key data entry capabilities gained in Adaptive's recent acquisition of Mimetics, a European recognition software company, as well as completion and job flow functionality from FormWare, and next-generation data validation software developed by Adaptive over the last year.
"Teaming up the Scanner 3500 with Adaptive's EntryLink Enterprise system is great news for departments needing to implement computer assisted data entry," said industry analyst David Wood of Wood Associates. "Finally, there's an affordable solution that maximizes throughput and reliability without sacrificing ease of use. Customers using this system are going to be pleasantly surprised at how quickly their ROI becomes evident."
Unified and comprehensive customer support for both the Scanner 3500 and EntryLink products will utilize Kodak for quick-response on-site service, and Adaptive for telephone and remote support.
"When we acquired the Kodak OCR business last fall, we promised to deliver significant advances in Computer Assisted Data Entry in packaged, easy-to-operate product solutions," said Daniel J. Meub, President and CEO of Adaptive Solutions. "EntryLink Enterprise is a perfect complement to Kodak's Scanner 3500, in that both products will now provide next-generation ease of use and reliability never before demonstrated in the traditional forms processing industry. Most importantly, both products are the result of extensive research with Kodak's customer base and deliver price performance that is well matched for the needs of departmental and mid-volume production users."
"The Kodak Digital Science Scanner 3500 was designed, among other things, for decentralized environments with forms-processing applications," said Anthony J. Barbeau, Worldwide Marketing Manager for Mid-Volume Scanners with Kodak Business Imaging Systems. "Adaptive's EntryLink Enterprise product successfully extends the Scanner 3500 into this environment to provide users with a highly efficient, easy-to-use solution to their mission-critical forms processing challenges. Together, the Scanner 3500 and EntryLink Enterprise represent an unbeatable combination for these applications."
Kodak Digital Science Scanner 3500
The Kodak Digital Science Scanner 3500 combines one-button operation, continuous document feeding, reliable high-quality image capture and a contemporary ergonomic design. Kodak's newest scanner accepts virtually any paper stock without jamming, and makes scanning as easy as other automated office document tasks. Its advanced on-board processing maintains image quality automatically.
The Scanner 3500, entirely designed and developed by Kodak, emphasizes ease of use and overcomes the standard impediments to interruption-free scanning. A groundbreaking, robust document feeder essentially eliminates batching by accepting a broad range of mixed, unseparated paper stock, from vellum to cardboard. Pages can even be added to a stack during feeding. A C-shaped paper path only 30cm long improves image capture and minimizes jams. Jams that do occur can be easily cleared by an untrained user.
The uncomplicated, robust design of the Scanner 3500 enables it to process as many as 10,000 letter-size pages a day to perform under the most demanding requirements. For front-office applications where speed and image quality are paramount, the Scanner 3500 can scan 75 pages a minute (landscape) at high resolution. Its speed and flexibility make it an ideal scanner for computer assisted data entry applications.
EntryLink Enterprise
The EntryLink Enterprise line includes a range of complete, turnkey data entry products pre-configured to a customer's particular form and scaleable from 5,000 to more than 30,000 forms per day. EntryLink products are designed to work not only with Kodak's Scanner 3500 and its high-volume scanner models, but with the current Kodak microimager line including the Kodak Imagelink Microimager 70 and Kodak Digital Science Scanner/Microimager 990. Delivered as an integrated, performance-matched hardware/software solution, EntryLink Enterprise provides accurate data capture at the full rated speed of Kodak scanners and microimagers, and provides planned migration options for newer recognition technologies and integration of electronic forms.
