There was no single event that triggered 1929 or 1997. There were a number of events. Asian crisis is not triggered by a single event. It was caused by over ten years of failed government management in Asia. They propped up failing big business and banks for ten years. They also all copied Japan's model and pursued strategy of US export-driven economies all competing on price and cheaper currencies. It's another example of the failed model of centralized planning of economies and the large amount of corruption in Asia.
