Dear Jane:
For sure, Laverne and Edith gave up a promising career in Nashville. It is interesting that they do not charge admission. He said they stopped charging 25 years ago and at that time were getting $1,500.00 a night. In todays money they could easily get $10,000.00 a night, IMO.
They did have a little table set up in the vestibule and were practically giving away tapes. I got all 30 some of his tapes, Edith's cookbook, the complete NT on tape, his book,a few videos,a study 12 step recovery bible, a book of music with his most popular songs all for a hundred dollars. Usually a three tape set will cost 20 bucks in a store. For sure they do not need the money. They could live in comfort the rest of their lives off the royalties from past recordings.
Well, to anyone coming by Wytheville Va. this Sun. night, June 28th our town is holding a free concert by The "Lynns" two of Loretta's twin daughters. All you have to bring are a few lawn chairs to sit on. We have a little park the shape of a natural amphitheater and will pack in about 12,000 to 15,000 people. The towns population is 8,000 .
God Bless. In Christ....Gregor
