The red sports car had been following her for almost an hour, weaving in and out of traffic, keeping a constant distance. Suspicious of everyone, she pulled over into the left lane and watched the red car in her rear view window. It, too, merged over into the left lane. She slowed down quickly and caught the red car's driver by surprise. It swerved to the left to miss her and sideswiped the median wall, scraping the entire driver's side. At the same time, she quickly veered right, across three lanes of traffic and exited the freeway.
Laurie knew then that "they" were after her. "They're after my gold locket", she thought. The gold locket where she had hidden the microchip.
[Editor1: Hey! What's going on? How did Laurie get in this story? She's not supposed to appear until the third "Muffy" book!]
[Editor2: Well, the authoring crew seems to have fallen asleep. I thought a little excitement would get the creative juices flowing again.]
[Editor1: Maybe so, but you can't just introduce new characters in mid-stream like that. Besides, nobody knows anything about the microchip, or what it's used for. Get real, will ya'? You have to make these transitions believable!]
[Editor2: Fine! If that's the way you want to be, then YOU figure out how to get this story moving again!]
[Publisher: Break it up, gang! I don't care who does it, but SOMEBODY has to get Muffy out of her hotel room and back into the chase for FBNA's money. The USAW story is getting stale. I'll bet nobody even remembers that USAW is the symbol for "Under Seas Air Ways". The company whose motto is "They'll never ground our planes."]
[Book wholesaler: I'm getting really ticked at this delay! All the major book chains are on my case about pumping Muffy's book, and now they're getting dumped on by their regular customers. A real "pump and dump" scenario.]
