Bob,
I started getting into stocks and the market only recently...about last Febuary. One of the first books I read was the Fool's...It definitely is a major reason for the attitude I now adopt, which is one of loathing to put my money into MF, and a belief that I can do best on my own. However, I have also started using TA, and I believe that it is possible to use that w/ just a few fundamentals to successfully invest. William J. O'Neill's book is where I base my "funnymentals" on...the CANSLIM method...
I have to be a little cynical of the Fool's holding on to AOL as a stock (or for every buying it) especially with the restructuring. If they were not so closely tied to it, I believe we would be hearing a totally different outlook on it. Something along the lines of...the future is not CERTAIN, they don't have such great profits...and some more. I still think they are great but not totally innocent from bias :-).
I agree tremendously with their point on the whole information thing...more available etc. and I am proof of this. I could not have learned as much as I did about investing etc. in the amount of time I did if not for the internet...
