Here's a real-life example:

I have a Dell computer that came with a Diamond FireGL 1000 Pro 2D/3D card (based on a Permedia chip). I added 2 Creative Labs Voodoo2 cards in SLI mode. The output of the Permedia card goes into the input of the 1st Voodoo2 card and the output of that card goes to my monitor.

When I run Glide applications, my Voodoo2 boards are used automatically, no questions asked. However, when I run a DirectX application like BattleZone, DirectX first pops up a dialog box asking me which 3D card I want to use. I can choose either the Permedia solution (which looks terrible!) or the Voodoo2 solution. I'll let you guess which one I usually choose...

The only issue for combining a Banshee based card with a Voodoo2 based card is whether or not the Glide drivers will give you a similar dialog box for choosing between the cards when running a Glide-based program.
