Earlier this week I recieved a briefing on the new Sexi System.It is not the same system this organization has been advertising for the past year. No longer are line drivers utilized to move the 30 fps video 4000 feet down a twisted pair of wire. Instead,as I indicated earlier (but could not confirm at that time) RF type baluns are now integrated into their new system. These devices will permit 30 fps to be moved 100 meters.In many applications this is suffiicient,however when the campus to be linked has distances from switch to PC beyond this limit the equipment costs and complexity of the system increase very rapidly. The switching capability at this demo was for 16X16. I am not sure if this number was derived by ganging two 8X8 Sigma Electronic Switches together or not. If this is the configuration then the max number of ports available for interconnection to PC's is less than 16 bu the number of ports utilized to provide interconnection between the two switch modules. Regardless for small size requirements this is a viable configuration. The system is very stable,very easy to operate. In the laboratory environment when the SEXI system was only one of three desk top video systems that were connected to a very sophisticated network.One in my mind that is quite unique but whose transmission costs may prove to be prohibitive-but it is very impressive. The other two systems currently connected are the Picture Tel-100 and the Video-LAN system. Each has its own attributes. If nothing else it demonstartes interoperability-not due to features of the desk top system but due to the sophistication of the network system to which they are linked. The White house did place an order for SEXI equipment.
