Jim,

What are doing apologizing??? The way I figure it, the more the merrier, and your ideas and thoughts are certainly appreciated by me, if not by all.

About the EPA standards, I believe that they are to implemented over 10 years and revolved around "attainment"-"nonattainment" parameters. I know that here in DC, we fall woefully short of attainment of the new standards and there is all kind of talk about forcing 2-stroke engine manufacturers to meet compliance levels since a lawn mower is rumoured to produce more pollution than a car.

Another issue is the amount of particulates that are in current stocks of Diesel fuel. Without the sulfur and other particulates, I understand that Dielsel is less pollutive to the air than gasoline. It is because drivers don't maintain injectors in their engines, and the fact that most diesel contains some amount of sulfurous particulates that they blow all of that black smoke.

GRNO has contracted with a firm in Charleston that is R&D'ing a special type of Fuller's Earth with special additives for filtering out Sulfur. Bill has stated that if he wanted to, he could produce #2 Diesel that comes out "white" (pure) if he chose to at very low added cost to the process. They will be testing this new filtering system on the processor and will be extending the life of the Fuller's Earth treatment (I understand it resembles "kitty litter") to double its life so that his fuel will be cleaner than comparable market quality Dielsel, but will still look like it. He believes that the demand for "white" diesel would be low, since it would be looked upon with suspicion. At least that is how I understood the issue when Marty and I had a conference call with him several months ago.

Bill seems to have put a lot of planning into this rendition of his process in order to make his fuel as marketable as possible. The EPA standards will only help GRNO, as waste oil collectors look for other methods of meeting EPA compliance and the markets for their blended #4-5 fuel oil dry up due to their overly pollutive properties. (They spew out quite a bit of sulfur, I understand). Marty Huppert says that "off-spec" fuel (#4 fuel oil, etc..) is a small part of the air pollution problem. Poor quality Diesel seems to be more of an issue.

Regards,

Ron
