Seen it happen many times before. There is a combination of things at work here but this is certainly one of them. This also gives the ultimate acquiring company (assuming the foreign interest you mentioned is correct) more time to let its stock price run up therefore causing less dilution when they decided to consummate the final purchase in this game of pacman.
