Joe Baranowski, IDT's Centaur Technology vice president of sales, says he is also predicting sub-$500 PCs, "often including a 15-inch monitor," this year, from second- and third-tier PC vendors. And next year? "$399 price points may become a reality," Baranowski says.
Remember, though, that they are talking about entry-level PCs here; mainstream business and power users are likely to continue wanting greater power, extensibility, reliability, and support than these low-cost models might offer. But if such inexpensive PCs do come to market, imagine what it will do to overall PC penetration, and what that might mean to our ever-more-wired society
