Break the group into three groups of three, A B C and D E F and G E F. Balance ABC against DEF, if they balance the bad coin is in GEF, if ABC is heavier then the bad coin is in ABC. If DEF is heavier then the bad coin is in DEF.

You now have a group of three coins, one of which is heavier. Weigh any two. If they balance then the third coin is the bad one, otherwise it is the heavier of the two you weighed.

OK now what?

Bob
