Read the last post regarding natural gas. Yes coal-bed methane IS A natural gas and yes methane is the largest component of what is usually referred to as natural gas but they are usually produced in two different ways. Natural gas is often produced by drilling into a natural trap formation where the gas is separated from the water and oil or is pumped out of a source rock with produced water and removed through a stripper well.

As I understand coal bed methane production, it is removed from the seam being mined in advance of the mining via vacuum extraction type techniques - is collected and produced.

I understand that this actually causes some concerns with the pipeline companies because you need to produce at a certain constant pressure to enter the line.

As I said I am a geologist but not a production engineer. These statements should be verified.
