Pierre,
Fortunately for you, I've got to run to the airport so you don't have to worry about any rambling post.
So far, it seems to me that the performance characteristics are targetted properly, i.e., I think that there will be a substantial market for consumers that will take 2D as a priority and who aren't serious enough gamers to buy a second 3D accelerator.
Too early to tell about the pricing, my gut response is that it may be a tad high. But the beauty of pricing is that it can be adjusted on the fly as the market demands. So if I was setting now, I'd probably also set it high as well.
On the market reaction....I'd didn't expect much anyway, so I personally was disappointed. The price for at least the rest of the month will be dominated by the perforcement during the quarter. The Banshee introduction was a non-event as far as I can tell. If one believes that based on consensus estimates the market is saying "I don't think 3Dfx can overcome the odds of competition and price erosion.", the attititude isn't going to substantially change until something happens to change it and an introduction to Banshee isn't sufficient....It's either going to take good earnings reports based on actual Banshee sales, or companies like Diamond or CREAF to whisper in the analysts ears that they are buying up Banshee in quantity and along with some OEM deals, e.g., DELL/Diamond.
How about yourself?
Regards, Jim
P.S. See you all again on Thursday. Enjoy the week. <g> |
