Paul -- I'm also a geologist and a Christian. Which "established" church do you speak of? Many established churches recognize that evolutionary models and Genesis are not mutually exclusive; the consciousness of man is at issue, not the age of the earth. As we all know, Christ spoke in parables as an educational aid; could not the writers of Genesis do as much? Our standards of belief and acceptance have gone beyond those of 4000 BC. Regarding the "creation science" and "gap theory" nonsense: I find these pathetic excuses for evolution and planetary development far more odious than an admission that the Bible cannot be interpreted literally, at least not by us. God allows us to see the glory - the true glory - of his creation, and we question it? Or worse - we try to hide it behind screens of lies and denial. That is true heresy - God as con artist, as cosmic practical joker. There are few things that get me more upset than intellectual dishonesty. Any religious pursuit that does not permit God to speak in the present tense is unworthy of His grace and will fail. Jeff
