ok back on thread

One of the chartist parameters that's intrigued me because I haven't found a reference to it is the daily price volatility vs the volatility charted on closing prices over 20,40,50,100 etc periods. Somewhere back in the haze of my initial fumbling around for a toehold in all the indicators I seem to recall a concept akin to spectrum analysis which could allow you to extract via Fourier/FFT techniques some useful info on price as well as closing volatility.

Is this a topic with credible adherents for day trading or just relegated to study by obscure techies who still keep that K&E log-log decitrig slide rule in the back of their desk drawer out of sentimentality (senility?)
