Headline: "Emory [University] develops genetic method to mend bones" --

Competition? This was the headline of a local story in today's Atlanta Constitution about the discovery of the "LMP-1 gene" at Emory University. excerpts follow. i'll post the whole article when it becomes available on the paper's web site in two days (www.ajc.com).

"Sofamor Danek Group purchased the rights to a gene technology that induces the natural bone growth and may vastly improve bone healing"

"... LMP-1 gene, named for a protein the gene produces that causes bones to grow during fetal development ..."

"Researchers said the technique could improve or enhance the current practice of using bone grafts, taking pieces of bone from a patient's pelvis and applying them to damaged areas, to heal bone."

The article quoted Dr. Scott Boden, director of the Emory Spine Center. I tried to call him and await a return call. A person in his office said that LMP-1 was different from OP-1, with which she was familiar.

Is this news or old stuff? what is its significance in relation to CBMI?
