Banshee is candy for the OEM's. They are going to eat this chipset up once it appears in mainstream low cost accelerator cards from the likes of Diamond.

Assume, for example, that you are selling a PC clone. Wouldn't you love to be able to put on the box that your PC has the fastest 2D performance in the world and full Voodoo-based 3D? The Banshee is effectively comparable to taking Matrox's best shipping 2D accelerator, doubling its performance, and slapping a double-speed Voodoo onto it. Compelling stuff. People glaring at sub-Voodoo2 performance or whining about the lack of (useless) AGP 2X support are missing the point. Remember Intel's I740 announcement prompted much of TDFX's sell-off and it has only average 2D and 3D performance; nowhere close to Voodoo2. 3DFX needed a card to compete in & conquer that low end market and Banshee is it.

3DFX learned from its Voodoo Rush mistake and has corrected all those problems with Banshee. I expect this product will be a BIG win for the company. It was never intended to be the 3D chip that will blow out Voodoo2. That is Voodoo3's job.

I remain, as always, bullish. This will be a great Christmas for us.
