True, but by the same token, this means that user written
methods won't be running in the same address space as the
server; and therefore, an errant user written method can't
crash the database and possibly corrupt your data...

It's a trade-off between performance and data integrity.
Informix chose one route and Oracle apparently will choose
the other...

I grant you this point...admittedly, it's multi-threaded
server with support for async I/O seems alot cooler than
Oracle's multi-process server...

Basically, the point I was trying to make earlier is that
both products are quite feature rich and the one you use
is highly dependent upon your requirements.
