I believe they now have 4-5 and 3 are distinct species from different eras. But other dinosaurs not linked to birds also have some evidence of feathers, this is what led that young paleontologist about 20 years ago to first put forth the hypothesis. Evidence began to be found that supported it, then the first major finds were unearthed in 1996, and now these latest show the development of the earliest flightless bird/dinosaurs. What is interesting about these fossils is that the creatures were just about in the first 30% of the evolutionary transition roughly 120 million years ago. The large dinosaurs we always associate the race of dinosaurs with died out about 65 million years ago after the impact of the mammoth asteroid changed the earth's climate -- but the bird dinosaurs survived. This makes them absolutely the most successful animal species ever on earth.
