Greg, I don't have an answer to your question, but I suspect that AT&T is working with LU on this. A more important point, though, is that this is just another local telephone entry strategy by T that is bound to fail. I remember T's former Prez announcing their grand strategy only two yrs ago to offer local service via cheap wireless connections. Then it was by its acquisition of TCG. Now its cable. Don't you think a cable company would have begun offering voice connections for customers if they could do it? In fact, virtually all the cable companies (the only exception I can think of is RCN) have abandoned the idea of providing voice via cable because they can't make money doing it. Even if T can pull it off, it only solidifies T's dominance of the low-margin consumer market. Cable companies do not serve downtown areas; how does acquiring TCI help T capture back the big business customers? This is a deal premised on vaporware. I predict in about 4-5 years, T will announce that they made a big mistake and that they are spinning off their cable subsidiary.

Cable TV is a third rate competitor to the voice and data (CSCO-run!) networks.
