FYI: GlobalStar Plans US$20mn Venezuela Investment - Regional

Global satellite operator GlobalStar is planning to invest US$20mn to
develop a land station in Venezuela, one of three the company will build in Latin America. Further stations in Argentina and Colombia are also planned.

The US$2.6bn international Global Star program will use 48 satellites to operate global mobile telephony within a year. The consortium is made up of the following companies: Loral, AirTouch, Alcatel, Alenia, DaCom, Daimler-Benz Aerospace, Elsag Bailey, France Telecom, Hyundai, Vodafone and Qualcomm.

Global Star is competing with the Iridium satellite project, controlled by US-based Motorola.
