Here's my death threat story.
Some people on one thread who were long a stock I was also long in, were irritating a fellow by using his last name as a verb. Let's say his last name was "John Ping," which it wasn't, but everyone promised Jill never to mention him again, because he would go ballistic and besiege her with emails threatening legal action. (He was kicked off for life, and you can see how distressing it would be then to have people still talking about you.)
So these longs (though not I) would say things like, "Ping that," and if they were particularly struck with a post, "Ping!!", silly stuff like that.
So he sent an email message to a friend of mine (this was before the days of PM) saying that he could get a private detective to find my house, and hire someone to come and stick a gun in my face ("in this country you can do this,") and that would cause the others to stop disrespecting his name.
It felt like a sort of death threat at the time, although to give him the benefit of the doubt, he did leave out any reference to actually pulling the trigger. Weirdest thing was that I was to be hunted down as a surrogate for the offenders.
